Coming from London originally (where a cow is hard to find!) I am attracted to the many animals and the farm life in rural Wales. I find inspiration for my paintings mainly in the surrounding area and countryside of Chepstow where I live with my Family. So if you're around and about in Wales and you see what seems to be a mad woman clinging to a fence taking pictures of cows, say hello it could be me.
I have been painting for many years and have experimented with many mediums and styles, but I have found that I am at my most creative and inspired when I am working with oil paints and in colour. My fascination with colour started when I was studying for a degree in Design Futures and researching art history, I was introduced to the paintings of the Fauves with their expressive use of colour and bold brush strokes. Their work inspired and encouraged me to experiment with colour in my own paintings and from there I continued to work with colour and develop my own style.
I view my paintings in the same way as a sculptor. I ‘sculpt’ the form tonally, but intentionally I do not always use the traditional colour, instead I play and having fun with mixing colour combinations. I especially find the vibrancy of complementary colours irresistible.
