Welcome

I have been painting for many years and have experimented with many mediums and styles but I have found that I am at my most creative and inspired when I am working with colour. My fascination with colour started when I was I studying for a degree in Design Futures and researching art history. I was introduced to the paintings of the Fauves and I was intrigued by their expressive use of colour and bold brush strokes. Their work inspired and encouraged me to experiment with colour in my own paintings and from there I have continued to work with colour and develop my own style.

I view my paintings in the same way as a sculptor. The emphasis is based on creating a three dimensional image, but using a two dimensional platform. I ‘sculpt’ the form with tonal colour intentionally not always using the traditional colour for that object but playing and having fun with mixing colours. Colour is as important to me as form and my choice of colour in each painting is not only inspired by the subject, but by the colour combinations themselves. I especially find the vibrancy of complementary colours irresistible.
I have found inspiration for my paintings in the surrounding area and countryside of Chepstow where I live with my Family. However, my next project will be closer to home. This year is a festival year www.chepstowfestival.co.uk and I will be out and about in Chepstow and at Chepstow Racecourse with my camera looking for inspiration as I am painting a series of colourful candid portraits in oil, of local people at play.
